Youngsoft Welcomes Amy S. Courter as SVP, Sales & Marketing

Youngsoft, Inc. Youngsoft, a full-service IT technology and consulting firm that specializes in IT staffing, application development, and niche software practices, announced that Amy S. Courter has joined the company to lead global sales. Ms. Courter comes to Youngsoft with a wealth of experience in IT solutions and services and will be tasked with driving growth across the company’s service offerings. Also, she has been involved with C-level process improvements and delivery enhancements which should help Youngsoft achieve exponential growth targets.

“Amy brings to Youngsoft a wealth of knowledge and senior management experience across a broad range of technologies and services” said Rupesh Srivastava, Youngsoft’s owner and president. “I have the utmost confidence that she will contribute strong leadership centered on the needs of our customers and partners during this exciting time of growth for Youngsoft.”

For most of her career, Ms. Courter, 53, has been involved in the management and development of solution strategies, corporate infrastructure and delivery for technology and service companies, including 20 years at Valassis, a $ 2.3 billion marketing services company. First as a manager, and last as VP of Information Technology and Telecommunications, she set strategy and oversaw all IT operations, personnel and projects. Amy was responsible for approximately 100 employees, coordinating IT systems, processes, and business recovery world-wide. More recently, Ms. Courter has served as VisionIT’s CIO. VisionIT is an IT service and staffing organization based in Detroit. Involved with the International Air Cadet Exchange Association (IACEA), until this fall Ms. Courter served as its President. She is also active with the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), serving as its CEO, National Commander, and Board Chair for four years (2007 – 2011). Ms. Courter was conferred the rank of Major General, USAFX. She is currently an officer of the Kalamazoo College Board of Trustees and serves the boards of other non-profit and for-profit organizations.

A native of Michigan, Ms. Courter obtained her B.A. from Kalamazoo College, studying her junior year at the Université de Strasbourg, France. Additionally she completed post-graduate certifications in Business Administration from Villanova University, and Executive Leadership from Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business.

If you’re in the military, you know you could be deployed to a different base at a moment’s notice. As such, you need to be vigilant at all times and be in a constant state of readiness to pack up and go. This can be difficult with a family in tow, but a good plan and some reliable out of state movers will help ease any transition. Here are some tips to integrate with your daily life to ensure moves won’t take too long.

Keep receipts for everything related to your military moving, even well after the movers have brought everything into your new home. Many costs, including gas and supplies along the way, may be reimbursed by the military. Don’t expect to have to pay for everything until you’ve been told otherwise.

Make sure your kids understand you might have to move very quickly. Of course, you don’t want them to avoid making friends or enjoying themselves. However, preparing them for the fact you might be deployed elsewhere is kinder than avoiding the issue and springing it on them at the last minute.

Maintain a storage space somewhere you trust. There are some items, such as family heirlooms or memorabilia you probably don’t want to have with you until you’re much more settled. Keep them at a family member’s house or in a storage facility near a good friend or relative who is less prone to moving than you are.

3 great cities for recent college grads

Not every college graduate moves into an apartment or house immediately after receiving a degree – some stay with their parents while they search for work. According to the Pew Research Center, 40 percent of 18- to 24-year-olds live at home.

Sometimes, graduates have to cast wider nets and consider moving out of state to find their dream jobs. Some cities have more open positions and more vibrant cultures than others, and college graduates have to take a serious look at which areas might best suit their needs.

Here are three of America’s best cities to find work and live as a young adult.

1. Boston, MA
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate for the Boston-Cambridge-Quincy metro area sits at 5.8 percent as of October 2012. There are numerous unfilled positions in the healthcare, financial and technological industries, making the area a haven for many new graduates.

Boston also boasts a lively culture, featuring some of the best museums and sporting events in the world.

2. Kansas City, MO
Kansas City is often overshadowed by Dallas and Chicago as one of the Midwest’s best cities. While the unemployment rate is slightly higher than Boston’s at 7.1 percent, CBS News writes that KC’s average rent is only $627 per month. This low cost can be extremely beneficial to young professionals who are earning entry-level salaries.

While Kansas City isn’t widely known for its vibrant culture, the city has sought to improve its image in recent years. The Kansas City Power & Light District is on par with any town’s downtown area. In addition to being home to restaurants and movie theaters, there are usually free events and concerts featuring popular bands like Young The Giant.

3. Seattle, WA
The Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue area has an unemployment rate of only 6.9 percent. The cities are home to some massive companies, including Microsoft and Amazon, that want young employees who can bring new ideas to their teams.

Seattle’s music scene is well-documented, and while not as popular as it was during the early 1990’s, it is still lively. The city is also well known for its loyalty to its underperforming sports teams like the Seahawks and Mariners.

Long distance moving can be difficult, but sometimes it’s the best step for recent college graduates to take. A new city can provide new opportunities and help students transition into adulthood as they find work and learn to live on their own.
