Keep backups on hand when you do any long distance moving

Keep backups on hand when you do any long distance moving

When you need long distance moving and storage services, you’ll probably divide your possessions into two groups. The first, which includes some clothes, household items and pieces of furniture, are those things that wouldn’t devastate you if they were lost or damaged. After all, quite a bit of what people use is relatively expendable.

In contrast, many people have prized possessions they could never find replacements for. Family photo albums, for example, are one-of-a-kind and their losses can be extremely tragic. The same is true for home videos, and this idea also applies to important items such as financial documents, government forms and medical records.

Consequently, it’s a good idea to make a digital backup of those materials well before the relocation and moving services come to box up your possessions and cart them across the country. Invest in a scanner and external hard drive or get in touch with conversion specialists. Moving company employees are professionals and won’t be to blame for your losses, but random acts of God can quickly wipe out your family records and keepsakes at the drop of a hat. Don’t take the risk these items will last forever – convert them to digital when you transfer your life from one home to another.

Stevens Worldwide Van Lines sponsored the Global Sustainability Conference at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU). The event is a result of a partnership between SVSU’s College of Business and Management and the University of Delhi’s renowned business school. Held from September 23-26, 2014, the opening reception took place at the Marshall M. Frederick Sculpture Museum located on the campus. As in the past, Stevens has been responsible for transporting the artwork from the home of the museum’s namesake, the late sculptor Marshall Fredericks, to the museum.

The conference included presentations and addresses from scholars and business professionals from Michigan-based companies and global powerhouses alike. Morrie Stevens Sr., Stevens Worldwide Van Lines Chairman and CEO, was a panelist during the week’s events.

The discussions in global business sustainability covered various sectors including agribusiness, the automotive industry, entrepreneurship, energy, and

Stay constantly prepared for military moving

Stay constantly prepared for military moving

If you’re in the military, you know you could be deployed to a different base at a moment’s notice. As such, you need to be vigilant at all times and be in a constant state of readiness to pack up and go. This can be difficult with a family in tow, but a good plan and some reliable out of state movers will help ease any transition. Here are some tips to integrate with your daily life to ensure moves won’t take too long.

Keep receipts for everything related to your military moving, even well after the movers have brought everything into your new home. Many costs, including gas and supplies along the way, may be reimbursed by the military. Don’t expect to have to pay for everything until you’ve been told otherwise.

Make sure your kids understand you might have to move very quickly. Of course, you don’t want them to avoid making friends or enjoying themselves. However, preparing them for the fact you might be deployed elsewhere is kinder than avoiding the issue and springing it on them at the last minute.

Maintain a storage space somewhere you trust. There are some items, such as family heirlooms or memorabilia you probably don’t want to have with you until you’re much more settled. Keep them at a family member’s house or in a storage facility near a good friend or relative who is less prone to moving than you are.

Brisebois Managing new Focused Logistics Office in Detroit

SAGINAW, MIFocused Logistics, a division of Stevens Worldwide Van Lines, has moved its headquarters to a new office on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit. Headed by new General Manager Bob Brisebois, the new office location brings the company’s warehousing and logistics services to the heart of Detroit while helping to revitalize the growing downtown area.

“We’re very pleased to have a physical presence in Detroit,” Brisebois said. “We’ll maintain our current location in Waterford, but our new Detroit headquarters will give us additional presence in this rapidly growing market and make our service more flexible and convenient.”

As the General Manager, Brisebois is responsible for oversight of Focused Logistics’ operations, including sales, project management, expenses and change orders. He works closely with the sales and project management teams to ensure client satisfaction. Brisebois began his new role on June 2, while maintaining his existing role as Vice President of Stevens’ Records Storage division. The resources and nationwide network of that division complement Focused Logistics’ growing operations.

Focused Logistics offers warehousing, delivery, installation and freight management of furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) as well as operating supplies and merchandise equipment (OS&E). The company services clients in the hospitality sector, handling the delivery and installation of furniture and related items for renovations and new builds of hotels, apartment complexes, and other residential facilities. Focused Logistics uses the wide network of Stevens agents as well as other partner agencies to coordinate activities across the nation.

“We have jobs going on in many states in addition to our Michigan work,” Brisebois said. “We’re working on a project in Boca Raton, Florida, and just starting a hotel project in Cleveland. Meanwhile, we just finished a refurb job for an apartment complex and clubhouse in Ann Arbor. Thanks to our network of partners, we can work across the country.”

Brisebois sees the potential for Focused Logistics to expand into complementary industries. “We have the potential to help with hospitals or other care facilities, restaurants, retail organizations, even casinos. For any operation that would have equipment to be delivered and installed, we have the capability to assist.”

If your business could utilize Focused Logistics’ services for your renovation or new build, contact the company’s new Detroit location at 313-270-9000 or their Waterford office at 888-206-2328 or visit them on the web at

Rays’ president buys new mansion

While his team is looking for a new stadium, Matt Silverman, president of the Tampa Bay Rays, has found a new home for himself. The Tampa Bay Times recently reported that the baseball executive paid $1.5 million for a mansion in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The news source reports that the property bears similarities to traditional Italian villas. The house is only minutes away from the team’s home stadium, which is a probable indicator that the Rays will be staying in Florida. In February, the Chicago Tribune speculated that the team may be moving out of state to find a larger fanbase.

When it comes to moving your belongings, you should always swing for the fences. Once you’ve found your dream home – as Silverman has – call Stevens Worldwide Van Lines to pack, store and ship all of your worldly possessions. The company can make relocation easy regardless of your destination.

Experienced relocation movers can ensure that all of your belongings are safely stowed and arrive at your new abode in pristine condition. Stevens can make moving and setting into your new home easier than hitting the ball out of the park.
