Stay constantly prepared for military moving

Stay constantly prepared for military moving

If you’re in the military, you know you could be deployed to a different base at a moment’s notice. As such, you need to be vigilant at all times and be in a constant state of readiness to pack up and go. This can be difficult with a family in tow, but a good plan and some reliable out of state movers will help ease any transition. Here are some tips to integrate with your daily life to ensure moves won’t take too long.

Keep receipts for everything related to your military moving, even well after the movers have brought everything into your new home. Many costs, including gas and supplies along the way, may be reimbursed by the military. Don’t expect to have to pay for everything until you’ve been told otherwise.

Make sure your kids understand you might have to move very quickly. Of course, you don’t want them to avoid making friends or enjoying themselves. However, preparing them for the fact you might be deployed elsewhere is kinder than avoiding the issue and springing it on them at the last minute.

Maintain a storage space somewhere you trust. There are some items, such as family heirlooms or memorabilia you probably don’t want to have with you until you’re much more settled. Keep them at a family member’s house or in a storage facility near a good friend or relative who is less prone to moving than you are.

“Million-Dollar Closet Heist” Raises Issue of High-End Home Insurance

Burglar-294485_640[1]

If you saw the recent Good Morning America feature on the three-story, 3000 square foot closet located in a home in the Woodlands area of metro Houston, you may have also seen the follow-up story – the homeowner failed to set the home security system upon leaving the house and returned home to find the closet had been burglarized. Gone were about a $1 million in high-priced jewelry, watches, and designer handbags.

In an interesting twist, shortly after the burglary, the local Houston newspaper received an envelope of jewelry and other items from a person claiming to be responsible for the theft, along with a complaint from the disgruntled thief that the items were fakes.

Nonetheless, in the case of a theft of authentic valuables, one might ask, “Does homeowner’s insurance cover thefts of valuables in the home?” After…

5 Ways to Prepare Your Home for Autumn

Thanks Glen!

Glen Sloan, Realtor at Keller Williams Realty North Atlanta

October is upon us, and with the pumpkin pies and falling leaves comes cooler weather and tiny ghosts and goblins. October is also an excellent time to prepare your home for the impending weather changes. Keep reading for some of the areas you should pay attention to.

Gutters
The falling leaves are definitely beautiful and create a lovely autumnal picture, but the picture of clogged gutters isn’t so pretty. Those leaves can block your gutters and divert rainwater into your foundation and exterior, leading to costly problems. Make sure to clean out your gutters and install a mesh guard to prevent the lovely leaves from making an ugly mess.

Roof
When seasons change, it is an excellent idea to make sure your roof is still up to par. A tiny leak can go unnoticed for months, which is why it is vital to inspect and repair, if need be. Winter…

Brisebois Managing new Focused Logistics Office in Detroit

October 6, 2014

Author: Barb Muessig

SAGINAW, MIFocused Logistics, a division of Stevens Worldwide Van Lines, has moved its headquarters to a new office on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit. Headed by new General Manager Bob Brisebois, the new office location brings the company’s warehousing and logistics services to the heart of Detroit while helping to revitalize the growing downtown area.

“We’re very pleased to have a physical presence in Detroit,” Brisebois said. “We’ll maintain our current location in Waterford, but our new Detroit headquarters will give us additional presence in this rapidly growing market and make our service more flexible and convenient.”

As the General Manager, Brisebois is responsible for oversight of Focused Logistics’ operations, including sales, project management, expenses and change orders. He works closely with the sales and project management teams to ensure client satisfaction. Brisebois began his new role on June 2, while maintaining his existing role as Vice President of Stevens’ Records Storage division. The resources and nationwide network of that division complement Focused Logistics’ growing operations.

Focused Logistics offers warehousing, delivery, installation and freight management of furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) as well as operating supplies and merchandise equipment (OS&E). The company services clients in the hospitality sector, handling the delivery and installation of furniture and related items for renovations and new builds of hotels, apartment complexes, and other residential facilities. Focused Logistics uses the wide network of Stevens agents as well as other partner agencies to coordinate activities across the nation.

“We have jobs going on in many states in addition to our Michigan work,” Brisebois said. “We’re working on a project in Boca Raton, Florida, and just starting a hotel project in Cleveland. Meanwhile, we just finished a refurb job for an apartment complex and clubhouse in Ann Arbor. Thanks to our network of partners, we can work across the country.”

Brisebois sees the potential for Focused Logistics to expand into complementary industries. “We have the potential to help with hospitals or other care facilities, restaurants, retail organizations, even casinos. For any operation that would have equipment to be delivered and installed, we have the capability to assist.”

If your business could utilize Focused Logistics’ services for your renovation or new build, contact the company’s new Detroit location at 313-270-9000 or their Waterford office at 888-206-2328 or visit them on the web at www.focused-logistics.com.
