Report: Michigan 10th In Country With Nearly 70,000 Beer-Related Jobs

DETROIT (WWJ) — Beer is good business for Michigan, it appears.

A report showed the state’s overall beer sector generates more than 64,000 jobs, with nearly 5,000 in the distributing sector, putting Michigan at 10th in the nation regarding beer-related jobs. The report was done by the National Beer Wholesalers Association and the Beer Institute.

The group found that beer distribution alone generates $1.9 billion in economic activity.

Developers of the largest beer bar in Detroit — HopCat Detroit — announced its grand opening date along with some of the festivities planned for the unveiling of its Midtown location.

It’ll bring 100 new jobs to a 11,000 square foot facility, organizers say, and feature 130 taps. Highlighting Michigan craft beer will be the focus of the $3.3 million venture.
