Why We Need the SFP Credential

ednovak99

Facilities professionals have a lot of great training opportunities available to us. In 2012, I decided to pursue IFMA’s Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP) certification. To do that I enrolled in a class that was offered in our area and taught by our esteemed instructor, Larry Morgan. This curriculum and class are the best, most valuable training available for the facilities professional. Everyone who is serious about facilities management as a profession needs to take this class and earn this credential.

What is the Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP)?

First, what exactly is an SFP? It is a fairly new credential offered by IFMA that goes beyond certifying a building design. It provides facility professionals with the tools that allow us to develop and implement plans that improve the facility’s impact on the environment and its occupants—not just today, but into the future. When you become an SFP, you gain a…

Follow the proper guidelines when finding a reputable moving company

Follow the proper guidelines when finding a reputable moving company

Americans move for various reasons, such as new career or military obligations, which has caused the moving services industry to expand at a rapid pace. According to Protect Your Move, more than 40 million people relocate each year in the United States.

However, along with industry growth, The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), has begun to educate people on how to guarantee their move will be devoid of fraud and made easier overall.

The first and foremost way to assure that a move will be done efficiently is by working with a reputable household moving company such as Stevens Worldwide Van Lines. Working with an organization that employs talented relocation movers is important because it helps make sure that possessions are treated with care and the transition will be as seamless as possible.

People who want to relocate to a new community may want to use the resources provided by the FMCSA to help guide them through the process of hiring a moving company. Using the organization’s guidelines on how to remain protected during a move, people can feel confident their relocation will be organized and stress-free.

How to negotiate your corporate relocation benefits

How to negotiate your corporate relocation benefits

Many enterprises hire corporate relocation companies to help their employees move. In most cases, assistance is not limited to the services of state to state movers – businesses usually offer significant benefits to workers who travel for employment opportunities. Unfortunately, not every company offers sufficient compensation to cover moving expenses.

With careful negotiations, you can earn a generous relocation package. Do not ask for the world – you should only ask for enough benefits to ensure that the transition runs smoothly.

Follow these tips to successfully negotiate a new relocation package.

Ask for a real estate agent
Most of the financial incentives employers offer are based on homebuying expenses. Companies typically offer allowances to help their workers cover the costs of finding a new residence.

If you’re moving out of state to accept a new job, you should ask your business to pay for a real estate agent. It is difficult to find a suitable home in an familiar area, and the issue is only exacerbated when you travel a great distance. The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) writes that it is valuable to understand the cost of living in a new state

Visit multiple properties once you have an agent. Explore different settings like big cities and small suburbs. Additionally, you should consider different types of residences like condos, apartments and and co-ops. After you receive a few price estimates, share them with your employer so that you will receive adequate funding for your relocation expenses.

Explain how assistance benefits the company
While companies are willing to help you with your move, they must also see some benefits. Businesses cannot afford to acquiesce to every demand simply to recruit a new worker – the practice would adversely affect the bottom line.

Monster.com recommends finding ways to explain how your comfort will benefit your employer. When you highlight how it would be advantageous for a business to help you move, it is more likely to meet your terms during negotiations.

The news source indicates that the best strategy is to say how much your productivity will be improved if you can quickly settle in your new home without worrying about minor headaches. Tell your employer that you would be able to work longer hours because you know that your affairs are in order.

Shrinking the Growing Skills Gap

intergenuity

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Achieve, educational advocacy group which promotes making high school graduates career, college and citizen-ready have combined to create increasing awareness of the growing skills gap situation in the United States in order to work toward solutions to shrink it.

This is one of the great issues among the generations of our times.  Increasingly, our educational efforts and our jobs-producing economic efforts are pulling in different directions.  SHRM and Achieve report in today’s WSJ (page B7) that 67% of today’s full-time staff hiring organizations are having difficulty filling positions, up from 52% just two years ago.  The SHRM and Achieve placed ad does not say what kinds of skills are missing, but the majority seem to be in two areas.  That which is commonly known as STEM…Science, Technology, Engineering and Math as well as in what are typically known as soft skills…communication, relationships, getting…
